Wow, what a day! Driving up the last 3K of the 2013 TT in San Jose, we are talking in a car not by bike, could take your breath away easy. Nothing less than 13% average I believe. We woke up to rain and freezing temperatures, at least for us wimpy Hawaiians, at noon it cleared up and we had a pleasant ride up to the top, there will be some “Fireworks” amongst the pro’s on this penultimate stage. My Garmin showed 21% grade at the Finish. Ouch.
While the peleton heads west up the California Coast, we had to say goodby to the southern stages and take a long drive up the I-5 transferring to the town of San Ramon, at the base of Mt Diablo. We’ll conquer the mountain tomorrow.
